Why are Reading Readiness Skills Important?

To successfully learn to read, children need to build a strong foundation in three key areas:

  1. Phonemic awareness (distinguishing individual sounds in spoken language)
  2. Letter recognition (recognizing and naming individual letters)
  3. Phonics (matching letters to the sounds that they stand for)

How Does This Program Teach Reading Readiness Skills?

This program’s instruction in reading readiness skills includes:

  • Formal phonics instruction.
  • Phonemic awareness and letter recognition games.
  • A self-paced beginning phonics workbook and audio CD program, featuring engaging stories and colorful artwork to keep students motivated.

As a result of participating in this program, your child will be well prepared for kindergarten, with the readiness skills, confidence and motivation to learn to read. The workbook and CD program will continue to support your son or daughter's skill development throughout the next year.
