Why are Phonics and Word Attack Skills Important?

To become fluent readers, children need to master phonics and word-attack skills.  Phonics instruction teaches children the relationship between letters and the sounds that they stand for.   Word attack instruction provides students with skills and strategies to decode longer and more difficult words.

How Does This Program Teach Phonics and Word Attack?

This program teaches second-grade phonics and word-attack in two ways. First, each class includes formal phonics and word attack instruction as well as enjoyable phonics games.

Children also learn phonics and word-attack skills with a self-paced workbook and audio program, featuring an exciting story and colorful artwork that keep students engaged and motivated. Children apply their new skills right away in the ongoing cartoon story, a unique and effective feature of this workbook.

As a result, your child will enter second grade with stronger decoding skills. The workbook and CD program will continue to support your son or daughter's skill development throughout the school year.
